Woven Trees
For our Fibers unit in 4th grade, we created woven trees over top of a painted landscape. The original lesson was inspired by Cassie Stephens and she has a wonderful tutorial for the "how-tos" on her blog. We adapted the lesson to fit the 4th grade North Carolina Studies and used the Appalachian Region as our inspiration. The student first painted their mountain landscapes onto a plate that then was converted into a loom. Following Cassie's tutorial, we wove the warp strings into the tree shape and completed the leaves with the weft strings. They were very proud of their final products. It took three whole class periods to complete but it was well worth the wait!
