Learn about a Famous Artist by watching "Art with Mati and Dada" online. Draw/color a work of art by the featured artist.

After look at all of the awesome artist featured on this channel , I chose to watch the video featuring Kandinsky.  I have always enjoyed his art work!

Kandinsky Photo

Kandinsky was well know for connecting his Art to Music.  He would create paintings that represnted how he though the sound of music should look!  I wanted to give it a try....
I chose to listen to Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca.  Have a listen!

Here is my Kandinsky STYLE drawing that was INSPIRED my Mozart's music.

Encore BINGO Square I3

Draw the following 3D forms: cube, cone, pyramid, cylinder and rectangular prism.
Now creatively change each form (cube into a robot).

This BINGO square was a lot of fun to draw.  To inspire my creative changes, I looked around my environment and utilized my imagination.  I can't wait to see what you choose to draw with your geometric shapes!
(If you need help learning how to draw these shapes, take a look at the video and drawing guides that I have linked below.)

Our "Family Fun Night" was a ton of ...well...FUN!  This year, we held an art show with a twist.  Instead of just coming in and look at the art that the kiddos made, we set up Give it a TRY stations so the parents can sit down and learn from the kids how to do the projects that they see.  It was wonderful to see the student teaching their parents!
Here are a few fun shots of the festivities, thanks to Mrs. Johnson!
Learning how to draw a room using one-point-perspective.

Teaching their parents how to sew.

Adding artwork to our "Cave" :)
Teaching each other how to do Origami!

We had a blast!

5th Grade
Perspective Art Gallery

Learning and successfully using the rules of linear perspective can be really tricky and frustrating!  Big kudos to my 5th grades for being patient and dedicated during this difficult unit.
We used the rubric below to help plan and assess our completed galleries.

Perspective Gallery Project                                                  Name:_______________________Teacher:_______
Project Requirements
Complete and
Best Craftsmanship
Compete but NOT Best Work
Incomplete and Needs Work
Straight Lines: All lines follow perspective rules and you used a ruler to draw the lines.

Craftsmanship: No pencil lines.
                          All lines traced in marker.

Art on Walls: 6 works of ART on the walls.
                        (2 master works/ 4 personal)

Ceiling:  Tiles and lights are drawn using perspective rules

Floors: Rug or wood planks

Coloring: Used color pencils.  Carefully blended (no scratchy or patchy marks).  Only “white space” are walls.

Practice Artist Statement:  Answer the following questions in COMPLETE SENTENCES.
Why do we use Perspective Rules in Art?  Describe how you used perspective in your drawing.  Describe the art work that you chose to put in your gallery.  What are your final thoughts on this project?

They really worked hard and it shows!

5th Grade
Sewing
Character Design

Our 5th graders had a blast with this project!  After learning basic sewing skills, they drew paper patterns/designs and utilized scrap fabrics to sew little creatures.  They all turned out so adorable!

Weaving Wonders!
Collaborative Co-Grade Level Project

To help reinforce weaving concepts across all level, we have two large scale weaving projects that we are all working collaboratively to create.  The kiddos love getting the chance to add a few rows when they finish early.

This awesome Loom was created for us this year by a parent volunteer.  We are weaving with recycled t-shirt yarn on this loom.  Our goal for this one to make a functional rug that we can use in the library.  We don't have a specific pattern or plan for this weaving... so we will see how it goes and grows!
Our 1st graders are currently learning how to create mini looms and weavings based on this big one!  I'll post more on this project as they finish up :)

Our second loom was created out of two branches and twine.  We are weaving with shredded scraps of donated clothes and fabrics.  I worked with our older grades to create a plan for a woven picture.  They decided on creating a "Coastal Landscape".  It is looking really good so far!  I love love love the textures of the random fabric scraps!

Pumpkin Palooza!
Some how I missed posting about these pumpkin pretties in October!  Both 5th and 3rd grade studied a mini pumpkin patch (posed on one of my mobile carts) and practiced their observational drawing skills.  5th grade worked on their pencils shading while 3rd grade worked on blending with oil pastels.
