Discovering self confidence and learning to encourage each other through group DOT paintings!

Kindergarten just finished their first art lessons of year.  We read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds and learned how important it is to always TRY in art class... because you never know what you can do until you give it a try!  We also learned that it is important to encourage and help each other so we can all become better artist.

So, we laid out several 8 foot long papers and created our group painting.  This was the very first time painting for a lot of our kindergarten friends.  As a group, we learned how to share our supplies, invited our neighbors to come and paint on our dots (sharing our space), and help one another learn how to make circles and dots with paint.

While giving paint to Kindergartners for their first art lesson may mark me as a crazy art teacher, the lessons in sharing, material exploring, and confidence building was worth the mess!  Now my new little artist are excited and ready to TRY everything when they visit art class.
