Cave Art in the Dark!
Kindergarten learned about some of the earliest artist...prehistoric cave painters! We took a VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP and explored the caves of Lascaux France. They enjoyed seeing how BIG the paintings were and had some very good discussion about what it would have been like to be an artist in the prehistoric eras.
"Those caves are dark and they have paper or tables to work on!"
"The walls are rock so it would be much harder to paint on."
"But, you know... the cave was a good place to put their art! There is no rain to wash off the paint and no animals to rub it away either. That cave saved all that art!"
Brilliant observations!
So, we spent the day trying to create art like the cave artist. To recreate the experience, we made a list of all the conditions that we could try... Lights out, we crumpled our paper to make them rough, and tested out using different drawing positions. It sparked tons of reflective conversations and some fun sketches!
